The following piece appeared on the front page of the Wisconsin Conservative Digest. I can’t stress enough how important it is for candidates who are running against one of these “republicans” to find a way to express to the voters, in simple terms, how egregious the bill was. The bill (for some unknown reason) provides an exemption for rape in a 14 week abortion window, and there is no clause in the bill that would require some type of proof that one was actually raped. So… As long as someone is willing to just simply “claim” they were raped, they can have an abortion three minutes before the baby is born. OUTRAGOUS - And every republican that voted for this bill should never be elected again!
NOTE: AB975 is the bill and below is the list of how they voted. Click on the link.
NOTE: AB175 also provides for unlimited abortion including partial birth abortion. Click the link to see who is authoring it. Dan Knodl is included (of course).
NOTE: ATTENTION CANDIDATES! Before you read the article from the WCD, understand that this Substack will be part of a broader list of egregious votes that our current group of Republicans voted for. The longer they have been in office the longer the list of sell-out legislation they have voted yes on. The list of decent Republicans is very VERY short… Stay tuned for that.
14-Week Abortion Bill is a Bad Deal for Babies and Everyone Else
Once again, the Republican leadership in Madison has either punted on abortion or completely bungled the issue. Let’s start off with some questions for our “all knowing” Republican leadership and then let’s discuss some inconvenient truths. First question is, what on God’s green earth makes you think that a 14-week abortion ban will satisfy the left? Secondly, do you know if you will actually gain enough voters from squishy baby killers to offset the tens or maybe even hundreds of thousands of pro-life supporters that simply will not vote for a candidate that supports a 14-week abortion window? You Can’t call yourself “pro-life” but then support a 14-week abortion window. The people who have bought into the “Abortion is women’s health care” garbage are never going to vote Republican, at least not until we win their hearts and souls with the right messaging. Of course, the new message is now “14 weeks is a reasonable abortion window” at least according to Amy Binsfeld and the other 50 some Republicans who voted for the bill. Governor Evers will veto the measure and all we are left with is a future starting point of 14 weeks for abortions. Thanks to the Assembly Republican caucus an eight- or ten-week ban is now impossible to even contemplate. Why does a 14-week abortion bill need an exempt for rape? I’ve asked Rep. Donna Rozar for an explanation since she introduced the amendment to add the exemption. She doesn’t like to answer questions, especially when there isn’t a good answer to give, so I received no reply. Doesn’t a rape victim know immediately that they were raped? One would think that they would act BEFORE the baby was that far along. AND the bill does not require any verification that a rape actually took place, so I guess abortion after 14-weeks is on the “honor” system. The bill that was passed by the Assembly Republicans allows “rape victims” access to abortion right up to birth. Of course, the exemption with no verification gets an extra check from Planned Parenthood. One great question for Rep. Amanda Nedweski, the author of the bill. Why isn’t there anything in the bill that would require an ultra-sound, a pamphlet on adoption, or information on services should they decide NOT to KILL their child? One final question, why didn’t the Republican caucus do a Constitutional Amendment that would bypass the governor? A bill that would require a referendum but needs Tony Evers signature anyway is the typical Robin Vos bait and switch play that the average Republican voter is tired of. Basically, the Republicans simply punted on first down. Hey coach Vos, why did you decide to punt on first down? Well, he replied, our offense sucks….
Messaging Nightmare
To be honest, the main reason I took this job was to provide conservatives with an actual physical paper that we could hand out, leave on lunch counters, hand to friends and neighbors and so forth. You can’t hand someone an email or social media post. The Wisconsin Conservative Digest has in the last six months (our first edition was in September) reached tens of thousands of people if not more. We are dedicated to helping them understand the conservative philosophy of lower taxes, less government, personal responsibility, etc. The messaging on abortion was always pretty darned simple, although there isn’t enough of it from the Republican party. Life begins at conception and ending a life is murder. Certain Republicans like Dan Knodl introduced a bill that would provide exemptions for rape and incest. The WCD finds it impossible to message that only some lives are worth saving. We won’t even try.
Bill Savage - As we get rolling into the campaign season, please consider contributing to my “We’ve Had Enough” Project. We need Republicans who act like Republicans in the legislature! There is a $50 option and a $240 Charter Member option!
Thank you!!
